Excitement is emerging in the south part of Colorado Springs for parents and students. After School University, a local tutoring and enrichment facility located on Briargate Blvd., is pleased to announce that they have opened a new location in the southern Colorado Springs area to K-12 students in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, English, foreign languages, and test preparation such as ACT, SAT, IB, and AP testing.
New After School University Location:
Gorman Education Center located 2883 South Circle Dr, room 314 and 316
Exactly one-year ago, After School University launched in the northern part of Colorado Springs. Within this first year, After School University has helped over 300 students from kindergarten to senior level with the core subjects in education. By offering courses that cater to each individual student, After School University has seen these students learn to understand, thrive, and excel beyond expectations. Whether a child is struggling or needs to be challenged, After School University has the right program. Students are thoroughly tested for knowledge gaps and receive immediate help with their school subject to build confidence. At first, students are two or three lessons ahead of school program, but very quickly exceed the school curriculum with advanced After School University classes. Students work in specific areas, covering material from the simplest to the most advanced, so they feel that they understand everything. Enrichment classes, offered in areas of computer programming, physics, chemistry, biology, languages and other subjects, help students apply their skills while learning new exciting fields. After School University and their students have seen tremendous success in grade improvement and test results through this simple method.
“For someone who is going through this curriculum, this is a direct way to MIT and Harvard and those best universities,” Prof. Anatoliy Glushchenko, Sr. Academic Advisor, said.
“It isn’t about helping students with just homework,” said Maria Feekes, the founder of After School University, “It’s about developing academic confidence and independent study so that the student can take the knowledge they learn, possess it, and use it in school and college.”
The Colorado Springs Business Journal recently reported that Feekes spent much of her career in the high-tech corporate world and with nonprofit organizations taking education programs to developing countries. Feekes is concerned that poor results in academics can result in limited possibilities for a student—both with selecting a good college and with future career possibilities. Did you know that in 2009, The Colorado Springs Gazette reported that, according to the Colorado Department of Education, 143,503 students from 4th-10th grade who were failing in math would not have the chance to catch up? This is where After School University can help.
Most of the After School University classes are done in one-on-one settings. With the wide range of qualified instructors, each student is paired with an instructor who will cater best to the student’s personal needs. Small group classes are also offered to students who excel in a group environment.
After School University is now available to assist students in their new south in the Gorman Education Center located 2880 South Circle Dr, room 314. This has thrilled many of the parents who are already traveling up north for these services, and After School University is ready to assist new students in need of tutoring and enrichment programs.
The parents of the students of After School University are excited to spread the word of their success to the southern part of Colorado Springs. Kelly W., a parent of a 10th grade high school student states, “We were very happy when we attended Ryan’s Parent Teacher Conference night at the High School. Many teachers expressed that Ryan was much more attentive this semester and wasn’t just ‘showing up’ to class, but actually participating in class. We feel that After School University has given him more confidence, not just in math, but in other subjects as well.”
“We really like how they were able to determine where the kids are in their learning process and where they need to go based on what little information and input we gave them. We especially like the enthusiasm they show and the multisensory practices used. It’s fun stuff. It takes talent and insight to be able to take what we give you, tell us this is where we need to be, and create an individualized curriculum based on what we talked about,” states Andi and David Bush, homeschool parents.
After School University is extending a warm invitation to students and parents in the southern location to check out the new After School facility. All students will receive a free assessment and parents who sign up their students for classes before January 31, 2012 will receive three free classes.
